Hastings Caves & Thermal Springs
Hastings Caves & Thermal Springs are another iconic attraction of Southern Tasmania. I’d be a shame to pass by the area without dropping in.
This tour is an awe-inspiring and educational experience for newbies and cave veterans alike. The knowledgeable tour guides offer a vast and rare wealth of information on the geology and history of the caves and park.
Highlights of the visit include a dip in the naturally heated mineral spring fed pool, a tour of the Newdgate Cave and gentle walk through the forest.
The forest walk around Hastings caves is very gentle, with a large segment being wheelchair accessible board walk.
When it comes to the actual cave, there are 250 steps to climb before you access the cave and once you are inside there are another 250 steps. While this sounds daunting, it is broken up by many flat sections and easily traversed by someone of average fitness and young children alike.
Good To Know
The caves are constant cool temperature year-round, and great to visit both in summer or on a wet winter day. We’d recommend bringing a jumper with you no matter what time of year you visit.
Good foot-ware is required as the caves are damp and can be slippery in places. Otherwise handrails are provided along the cave for support and the electrical lighting is very good.
Caves tours are 30 minutes but you need to arrive at the ticket centre 20 minutes beforehand to allow for travel time to the cave (some driving and walking).
